 When John Stephens AKA John legend hit the scene four years ago with is his album GET LIFTED I thought whoa this guy like MARY J BLIGE has put some real soul back into the charts the way he structured his music smacks of the 70,s and early 80,s soul R&B and along with long time friend KANYE WEST he managed to help breathe some life into the industry it was suddenly cool to a brother behind the piano in the STEVIE WONDER mould .Indeed the last couple of years as in my humble opinion seen a massive resurge in great soul music and new acts check out the musical talents of FRANK MCOMB who being less hip hop and more soul has help bring about a change. JOHN LEGEND isn’t just an over night success though this is a story going back to his early days when at 3 he showed a keen interest in music. So by the time GET LIFT was released JOHN LEGEND was a polished entertainer ready to take on the world .This he did and succeeded with songs like I USED TO LOVE YOU and ORDINARY PEOPLE. He followed this up with the brilliant ONCE AGAIN and a live set. In the mean time the collaboration between these two men would turn them into superstars, JOHN has followed in KANYE footsteps by setting up his own record label HOMESCHOOL RECORDS to which he signed Britain’s ESTELLE, this lead to the smash hit AMERICAN BOY feat kanye .He is back with a new album EVOLVER and single early signs is that JOHN LEGEND is set to repeat past performances.
