Just before I came to work tonight I sat down at my computer to listen to a new artist straight out of OSAKA JAPAN (yes you read correctly) the Japanese people have a deeper appreciation for the music if you ask me. Anyway her name is La NIECE McKAY and she has delivered here a solid album on first listen I must admit I was a bit distracted so I decided to download the album and listen to it on my iPod at work .I can definitely say the woman has great talent. The album theme centres around a relationship breakup, yet rather than being bogged down in the breakup she manages to allow herself and listeners to be positive lyrically whilst at the same time dropping some great grooves on us .The killer song here well let’s say there are more than one the opening song DONE FORGOT , and just when your thinking lets replay that song WHAT HAPPENED comes on and that’s what you are left thinking La NICE McKAY I kept telling myself hmmmm, WAY LUV GOES is another great tune before the more up-tempo SYMPTONS hits MISSIN U and ERASE YA are my two favourite s along with DONE FORGOT.I can t make up my mind which one of the three I like .Vocally La NIECE is very strong she has that vocal style that holds the listener when she sings leaving me thinking soul music has definitely come o
f age La NIECE McKAY is an artist that has quality written through and through and if you read this yet don’t decide to out and buy the album then you missed out on one of the best things for 2010 ( there I’m going to say it )the album is called SONGS FROM MY BREAKUP and judging from her picture what fool decided to breakup with this lady. In any case it may have inspired a star in the making . There is plenty enough here to please most soul music lovers even jazz fans will like certain song at times she gets experimental ,yet because vocally she is so strong it lifts the songs to new heights and you are forced listen even when a first you wanted to skip certain tarcks ,in the end you wind up liking the song themusic AND LaNIECE herself .She takes you on a personal journey and by its end you feel like yon know her and that gives you the listener another level appreciation of this womens work
