From his web page click here Britain's premiere soul singer is back, with the best album of his career. "I wanted to make a singer's album," says Lemar. "I wanted to take my time, writing and recording, making sure every song delivered; to sing and re-sing and sing it a hundred times if need's be, so that I know I've put everything I can into it." 'The Truth About Love' was released by White Rabbit/ SONY BMG on September 11th. Lead-off single is the irresistible 'It's Not That Easy', which was released on September 4th. "From beginning to end it's one journey in sound and emotion, so that the listener can really believe that this is from Lemar, this is where I'm at in life. I think I've nailed it." listen to a new song from this so talented man Although still in his mid-twenties, Lemar has experience that belies his years. A mild-mannered, academic, even slightly shy north London lad, he struggled for eight long years to get a record deal. "A lot of artists now are thrown into the light before they're ready. I had eight years writing and performing to find out who I am and where I wanna go. I am a determined guy, and very patient. I think I've found where I belong. I deserve to be here and I'm putting out music which means everything to me." He describes his third album as his "most complete body of work". Lemar- If There's Any Justice Lemar Tick Tock
It s great to see one of the uk leading soulsters back on the block who I am talking about LEMAR of course ,I went to see him over a year ago and I admit to thinking this was just going to be ok but the man was in excellent from, if there are any doubters about this man credentials he’s even dare I say it better live than on recording ( I almost typed record then) ,Lemar Obika (born 4 April 1978), Its not been an easy road for the man after a few failures to get a contract LEMAR came to fame when he appeared on FAME ACEDEMY 2002 he didn’t win but since then has never really looked back going from strength to strength . This new outing is his 4th yes fourth release .The new album is entitled THEREASON. Released 24.11.08.
With his good looks and rich, expressive voice, at 27-years-old Lemar has already won two Brits, three MOBOS and sold 1.5 million albums ('Dedicated' and 'Time To Grow'). The heartfelt, old school soul of 'If There's Any Justice' was one of the defining songs of 2004. The new album draws from the same rich vein. "There's an art to getting emotion through the microphone and onto the record, when people can't see your face, they can't see you on your knees in pain. The only way I could learn that is by listening to older artists, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, James Brown. It was a reckless road back then. They were great singers and great performers, but they had to struggle, and that's what makes their music so moving and connected to the heart."

Lemar is unimpressed with the tricks of the modern recording studio. "The way technology is nowadays anyone can hold a note - and even if you can't the computer can do it for you. But there are certain kind of songs you really can't get away with unless you can sing and that's what drew me to soul music. Sometimes it's all about a crack in the voice, somet
hing so earthy and so natural, it really pulls on the heart strings."
Lemar spent over six months songwriting and demoing, before entering the studio. While the modern approach is to work on individual tracks with different teams of producers, 'The Truth About Love' was done the old fashioned way, under the guidance of a single producer (Brian Rawling, who has previously worked with Lionel Richie, Mica Paris and Tina Turner). A band of top session musicians were assembled in a London studio, including legendary bassist Pino Palladino, drummer Earl Harvin and keyboard player Andy Wallace, who between them have played with such luminaries as Mary J Blige, D'Angelo, Common, Seal and Maxi Priest. All strings and horns were arranged by Jerry Hey (Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson and Christina Aguilera) and it was mixed by Manny Marroquin (Kanye West, John Legend, Alicia Keys). "I was there at every single session, singing with the band. We were trying to recreate a live situation, where you can really lose yourself and theoretically do anything within your ability. You really have to be 100 per cent inside the song and feel it in a big way in order to get that little bit of emotion on to the actual track."
The album includes collaborations with Mica Paris and Styles P plus a duet with Joss Stone. "Those ladies can really sing," says Lemar. "I think our voices compliment each other, it was really cool."
The subject matter of the songs is the same subject that has driven soul music since time immemorial. "The common thread is love, from all different sides, whether it be losing someone, wanting someone, friendship, jealousy, comfort, regret. Love is something people will always sing about, and always want to hear about, because even though everybody experiences it, everybody's experience is different."
"Vocally, it's the best thing I've done. Every song has a moment of emotional release, not from adding a choir, or trumpets or string, but from the actual singer. That's what makes it a soul record."
