The thing you really need to ask yourself before you listen to MARCELL & THE TRUTH is do I like people like MAZE,LUTHERVANDROSS,DONNY HATHAWAY,LTD,MINT CONDITION,SAMCOOKE and alike if the answer is yes then you will most surly love this band they are all of these and yet they are themselves for those of you who have a copy of the hopes too far SET OF 2006 then you know what to expect nothing but pure class .Vocally MARCELL is a 10 and his sound is unique it harks back o better days, yet at the same time he manages to deliver a vocal so smoothly he sounds so effortless in his delivery, That you are carried away with it before you know it. I don’t want to go over the top but the man in my humble opinion is that good. Musically again they have managed to not just cover old ground but move forward on the new album SYMBOLS for me the killer song s are JUST TO BEL LOVED and danceable track LOST IN THE MOMENT don’t get me wrong the rest of the album itself has some great moments CANT WAIT the opening song is simply sublime dreamy yet has that up tempo groove with it. YOU SAVED ME is again another highlight song down tempo with a lot of soul that you could see Sam Cooke or alike singing this song. ALL I KNOW has that MAZE and FRANKIE BEVERLY sound to it for me lovely stuff!. All in all there is a great mixture of sound here and one you should not miss ,there are 12 songs in all and I cant say I found a bad one .To tell you the TRUTH i simply whish more people would
start to develop a strong sense of melody because that’s where all the great R&B and SOUL MUSIC starts MARCELL & THE TRUTH start always with a great melody like JAMES BROWN once said DOES IT FEEL GOOD Oh yes sir! It sure does . (from there my space page) Our music is not for everyone. It’s created for grown folks. Pop music encourages you to stay young and that’s cool. But our music R&B/Soul believes that there is nothing sexier than growing up. Maturity built by in love so majestic to us.
The first album “Hopes Too High” dealt with pain and transitions, making since of life transitions, trying to understand them, embrace them and grow from them. This new album is about embracing what’s real and walking away from false images that lead to know where. This may go over the head of some. If you’ve developed a habit of loving the “show” of relationship & leave bc of transitions, if you like looking the part with no plan to become “the part”, if you gave up on your dreams and refuse to forgive yourself for some bad decisions from the past, and if your in love with pain – this might not be the album for you. “Symbols” is about the beauty of facing the truth, learning from them, and growing up and the blessings that can began to come after.
If you plan on trying to build a relationship long-term, love deeply, live each moment as if it’s the last, laugh very chance you get, forgive and love again –well…you might like this joint.
