When it comes to all things musically in 1982 there are quite a few artist I remember as if it were yesterday artist that I am still .Some artist i am fond of for some reason and others for simply nothing at all but just that I first heard their music that year the artist in question is as I recall are for both reasons the talanted MELBA MOORE ,for me it was very late on a Friday night that I had arrived home from a night out and tuned in to listen to the top ten import count downs on my radio. The then number one song was by MELBA MOORE called LOVES COMING AT CHA. It had that chugging baseline going through it and was instantly funky I had to have it. Ever since then I would always look forward to listen to her music I must admit I didn’t buy all her stuff, but when it was good DAM! it was good. Born MELBA HILL October 29 1945 her father was TEDDY HILL (the big band leader and manager of THE MINTONS PLAYHOUSE) and mother BONNIE DAVIES R&B singer. She began her career on the stage acting then later switched to singing signing to MERCURY RECORD S in 1970 she released her first single I AM LOVE this and others song helped build up her fan base, by the 1978 PICK ME UP ILL DANCE (from the album MELBA) was a major hit for the lady .Although her 1976 song THIS IS IT (From her album THIS IS IT) was a great hit here in the UK .By 1982 MELBA MOORE had earned her stripes she was up there with the best of them. Her albums up to 1982 were
I Got Love - (Mercury Records, 1970) Look What You're Doing to The Man - (Mercury Records, 1971) Live - (Mercury Records, 1972) Peach Melba - (Buddha, 1975) This Is It - (Buddha Records, 1976) Melba - (Buddha Records, 1976) A Portrait of Melba - (Buddha Records, 1977) Melba - (Epic Records, 1978) Burn - (Epic Records, 1979) "Closer" - (Epic Records, 1980) What a Woman Needs - (EMI America Records, 1981) The Other Side of the Rainbow - (Capitol Records, 1982)
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RAINBOW was to be a huge success for MELBEA MOORE and it seemed to lift here career worldwide she would follow this up the album NEVER SAY NEVER in 1983 again working with such producers like KASHIF she had instant hits my favorite was LIVIN FOR YOUR LOVE and KEEPIN MY LOVER SATISFIED. READ MY LIPS followed in 1985 of which I have to say was not for me.1986 came around and she was back with the album A LOT OF LOVE and her duet with FREDDIE JACKSON,A LITTLE BIT MORE and the stunning FALLING of which I feel was one of her best to date
that song showed MELBA MOORE as true soul diva and a quality artist in her own right. It was a two year break and she was again back with her new album I`M IN LOVE it didn’t have the same instant success but was never the less and very good set.1990 came around and the album SOUL EXPOSED was released and the song DO YOU REALLY WANT MY LOVE was an instant hit but things were changing the music scene was more new jack swing and so the public failed to pick up on this gem of a song but those soul purist enjoyed it so did i .After this things went really quite like most SOUL DIVAS melba had her wars to fight and fight she did and win .In 2003 she was back on film in the movie FIGHTING TEMPTATION starring BEYONCE and CUBA GOODING MELBA would duet with ANGIE STONE and BEYONCE ON the song TIME TO COME HOME .check out the movie it’s a wonderful treat .It’s always pleasing when I see stunning artist like MELBA MOORE still doing. Yet MELBA MOORE is a quality artist that we should never forget, she mainly records gospel music yet even in this she is still shining .So to MELBA MOORE we say a big thank you for your contribution to soul /Rnb music and the inspiration you help give it, many new upcoming artist would do well to pick a couple of her albums and take a peak there is a thing or two she could teach them .
