It will sadly be for many one of those where were you when MICHAEL JOSEPH JACKSON the singer ,songwriter ,producer and business man died, many will have lot to say about this man but in truth the only person who will know anything about MICHAEL JACKSON will be the man himself and god. Growing up here in the U k and also in an area that was 95% white the first memories I have of the Jackson’s was the
cartoon show and the show they did .For me and my brothers they were the only black act we saw and SHAFT if we where allowed to watch it. We had this huge JACKSON 5 poster on the living room wall of which mother tolerated for a very short time before getting us to take it down , with the words no one deserves such praise, otherwise he or she will have to pay a high price for that. That said we all loved the Jackson’s . The first ever song I bought of the Jackson’s was THE LOVE YOU SAVE of which I still have .As the 70,s rolled on and they grew up so did I listening to there music and the MICHAEL`S music so it was no surprise to me when the album OFF THE WALL was released in 1979 just how good it was, to this day I still rate it , musically better than THRILLER yet it will be by the THRILLER album that many people will remember MICHAEL JACKSON.The MTV age was upon us in the early 80,s and MICHAEL JACKOSN didn’t just make a video he was making FILMS he wanted to make, more than just a video. Saying this back then at the time I didn’t watch much MTV I had my head down studying . I had bought the THRILLER album and not liked it at first play, but late one Friday night after being out with friends I put on my ear phones and listened to it .The music won me over but it wasn’t until I saw the video did I realise just how powerful the two can be, Music had become not what we listen to but what we watch and MICHAEL JACKSON was a part of it .The success of that album is a story in itself .This is where things started to go belly up in my humble opinion. The press started to get hold what it called strange behaviour and to publish these (remember the press are there first and foremost to make money) so not everything we read we should be accepting , but we live in a world that in itself is WACKO it keeps telling itself its ok it can fix things its not addicted its not abusive its not dictatorial yet its all these things it is and occasionally some flickers of light shine through and make us feel that we are okay .Yet how can we be ,when we would kill one another over a spoken word, when we see one another as different when we set up complicated ways of living that simply set one person against another .(I`M STARTING TO RANT HERE) I guess what I’m saying Mr Jackson may not have been as wacko as the press said he was ,simply put enough people talk about a thing then before we know it, itself becomes a sort of warped truth and the real people who seem wacko are those who brought the papers and eat it up.So i guess MICHAEL JACKON will be remembered in most peoples eyes
as the entertainer and father he was .True there are the those who will point to certain aspect of the mans life and judge, and may be this is what my mother meant all those years ago that there is always a price for that kind of fame, and we cannot choose what price we will pay. In a world that he saw as dark he wanted to shine a light but to do that
your light must always shine , in death MICHEAL JACKSON will be seen as a light shining ,Me well MICHAEL JACKSON was just a man and that’s it. So when I think of him it’s the music that I here the summers I remember the times I danced until dropped to one of his songs the winters I walked through snow for a job interview humming one of his songs .The first years of marriage and how my wife has always been there for me, how my son would copy Michaels EARTH SONG as a little boy much to my delight .So to MICHAEL JACKSON I say thank you soul brother (even though most people say he was the king of pop to me he was a soul boy through and through) for the music and the movies that gave us all many good times.
